Emcee Guidelines

  • Make sure judges are using the correct score sheet.
  • When announcing competitors, announce the next name followed by 2 or 3 following: “Jane Doe is next, followed by Susie Jones, then Bill Smith.”
    • Some competitors will need to compete out of turn due to conflicts.
    • If a competitor needs to go early, put him/her next in the sequence.
    • If a competitor is not present, continue to call the name throughout the rest of the category.
  • Tapes/CDs and 5 copies of the music scores/scripts should be brought to the table when the name is called (if applicable).
    • Tape/CD Accompaniment cards must be filled out.
    • The name/group name must be written on the top copy of the music score/script.
    • Tape/CD is taken to the sound booth.
  • Before the performance begins, distribute the music scores/scripts to the judges.
  • When the judges are ready, signal the competitor to begin.
  • Start the timer after their introduction.
  • Keep the competition on schedule.
  • If the competitor goes over 5 minutes, quietly notify the judges. Do not interrupt the performance.
  • During the performance, check the addition of the judges score sheet from the previous entry.
  • Staple the score sheets together in judge # order.
  • Place score sheets in the proper folder.
  • No scores are to be released to anyone!
