Judge Guidelines

  • Write your Judge Number and the Competitor’s Name at the top of each score sheet.
  • Be sure you are using the correct score sheet.
  • Feel free to make comments on the score sheet.
  • All scores must be whole numbers. Do not give fractions such as 9.5.
  • Add your score sheet and give to the emcee.
  • Contestants are limited to 5 minutes. Points are subtracted if the limit is exceeded. The emcee will notify you if the limit is exceeded.
  • All contestants, with the exception of Instrumental Groups, must have their presentations memorized. Copies of the presentation where music/text are used (Vocal, Instrumental, Keyboard, Speech, and Music Composition) must be submitted to the judges. If copies are not submitted, an automatic one will result in the scoring of memorization. Speech participants are required to submit either a manuscript or an outline.
  • Judges are not permitted to leave their stations during a category.
  • Judges may not collaborate during a category of the contest. However, judges may confer between categories.
  • Judges should refrain from giving verbal comments during the competition.
